I love reading fictional stories with my students. I love making voices and sound effects. If I wasn’t a teacher, I’m sure I’d be a voice actor. That’s why I encourage my students to read every single day.

One activity I’ve always done is read one book right after recess. In the beginning, I used regular books, but lately, I’ve used digital books. After using ebooks for the first time, I am never going back! Digital books are a blessing in my classroom. Whether they are PDF books, PPTs of books, or book readers online, I can’t get enough of them.
Aesop’s Fables eBooks and Reading Comprehension Bundle
In my second grade classroom, we learned about Fairy Tales and Fables. After finding very few eBooks (it was still relatively a new thing), I created my own set of digital eBooks based on Aesop’s Fables. The set includes 10 eBooks, each with activities to go along with each book. Activities include writing prompts, reading comprehension, story elements, and more. There’s even printable version of the eBooks if you’re not 1:1, but if you have a Smartboard, you’ll love the eBooks. Give it a try! Aesop’s Fables Reading Comprehension Bundle

What makes eBooks so great?
There are so many reasons to use eBooks. I’ve always wanted to digital classroom and digital books were always on the list. Once I used them, I’d (almost) never go back to the traditional way of reading. Here are some reasons eBooks are phenomenal!
Your hands are free!
Not weighted down by holding the book, I can add more motions to the story. Whether I’m “pretending to cook” or “sneaking around”, the added motion really gives students more of a visual. Even better, you can add props to your reading, making it more exciting for your students!
Add Sound Effects to Stories!
When you’re holding books with your hands, you can only rely on the sounds from your mouth. Now the book is digital, you can use your entire body. Make a monster appear by stomping your feet. Make horse sounds with your hands. This gives students sound to the visuals in their heads.
eBooks are versatile!
One of the best reasons. No clean up whatsoever. No printing, cutting, gluing, or stapling in site. No replacing damaged books or keeping track of books students have lost. eBooks are printable too! Digital mean it’s ready whenever you’re ready and no hassle!

Give it a try!
Why not try it yourself for free! The classic story “The Tortoise and the Hare” is the perfect story to read to students. Includes writing prompts, reading comprehension, story elements, and retelling the story. Read it aloud to your students, adding motions and sound effects as you go along.

Book for the Raffle
One of my favorite books I’ve read recently is Pencils on Strike. It’s a funny story and it is so relatable. Makes a great read aloud for any time of the year, especially back to school. You can win your own copy by entering the raffle here: https://bit.ly/RCbacktoschoolebook2022
